Determine International Transport Needs
If the death occurred out of country, contact the US embassy in that nation to report the death.
- The embassy will help to coordinate arrangements for body transportation with a 3rd party provider
- A Consular Report of Death of a U.S. Citizen Abroad will be issued to the Executor of Estate, surviving family, or next of kin. This document will act as the official Death Certificate
- When transporting bodies via airlines, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will require that a Funeral Home certified as a Known Shipper to facilitate the process
