Review Veterans Benefits

The surviving spouse, child, or parent of a service member who died in the line of duty, or who died from a service-related injury or illness, may be eligible for benefits from a few different Veterans benefits programs:

  • Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) -- if the veteran died while in the service or service-related disability, received or was entitled to receive Veterans Administration (VA) compensation

  • Wartime Service Pension -- an annual pension for surviving families with low annual income

  • Burial Allowance -- reimbursement for burial or Funeral expenses if not reimbursed from another source

However, all honorably discharged veterans are eligible for:

  • Burial in a national veterans cemetery

  • Free headstone and marker

  • Burial flag

  • Presidential memorial certificate
